IPL works by delivering targeted light energy to the skin, stimulating collagen production and improving tone and texture.
Following your treatment, your skin will be more sensitive and will need gentle care to ensure a safe and effective recovery.
Proper aftercare is essential to protect your skin, enhance your results, and prevent complications. Please follow the guidance below carefully to support optimal healing and get the best outcome from your treatment.
Editing Text
Clicking on any text allows you to edit it directly. You can change the font style, size, and colour. To change the overall font, head to your Website Settings located in the site builder header.
Kindly take a moment to read through the following aftercare instructions!
🔹 First 24 – 48 Hours Post-Treatment
Your skin may feel warm, tight, or slightly sunburned – this is completely normal.
You may also experience temporary redness, mild swelling, or darkening of treated pigmentation spots.
To support healing:
Keep the area clean and dry.
Avoid touching or scratching the skin.
Apply a cool compress wrapped in a clean cloth to ease any warmth or discomfort (avoid applying ice directly).
If your practitioner has recommended it, you may apply Aloe Vera gel or a gentle, fragrance-free soothing cream to calm the skin.
🔹 Cleansing & Moisturising
Gently cleanse the treated area twice daily with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
Pat dry with a clean towel or tissue – do not rub.
Apply a light, hydrating, fragrance-free moisturiser to support barrier repair and soothe the skin.
Avoid heavy, oily, or active skincare products (such as acids, retinols, or exfoliants) for at least 5–7 days post-treatment.
🔹 What to Avoid
For at least 7–10 days, or until the skin has fully calmed:
❌ Do not exfoliate, scrub, or pick at any flaking or darkened areas — these will naturally shed.
❌ Avoid hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms.
❌ Refrain from swimming or using chlorinated water.
❌ Avoid perfumed products, tanning lotions, or makeup on the treated area for at least 48 hours.
❌ Minimise friction from tight clothing, hats, or masks that may irritate the skin.
🔹 Sun Protection ☀️
After IPL, your skin is especially sensitive to UV exposure.
Keep the treated area completely out of direct sunlight.
Once the initial redness has subsided, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen daily — even on cloudy days.
Continue sun protection as part of your regular routine to maintain long-term results and prevent pigmentation.
Failure to protect your skin from UV rays can lead to hyperpigmentation and delayed healing.
🔹 Signs to Watch For
Contact Inked Crown or your GP if you experience:
⚠️ Excessive redness, swelling, or blistering
⚠️ Increasing pain or heat after 48 hours
⚠️ Pus, oozing, or signs of infection
⚠️ Any unexpected skin reaction
🔹 Ongoing Care & Future Sessions
Your skin will continue to improve over the weeks following your IPL treatment as collagen regenerates.
Mild redness or sensitivity may last up to 2–5 days, depending on your skin type.
Pigmented areas may temporarily darken before naturally fading.
Treatments are usually spaced 3–4 weeks apart to allow your skin to fully recover.
Consistent aftercare and SPF use are key to achieving long-lasting rejuvenation and maintaining your results.
